Proposal

Dear Mr. Crerar,

Ever since I was a young child, I idolized one person and one person only, Bruce Lee. I grew up watching his films and mimicking his scenes which is how I knew what he stood for and how he was one of the most inspiring Asian pioneers regarding the Hollywood scene and martial arts, in other words notable. So, you may ask, what does it mean to be notable. A pioneer, an influencer, maybe even an important part of society. Well Bruce Lee, checks all the boxes. he is a pioneer in the world of martial arts by creating a fighting technique called 'Jeet Kune do,’ a method which allows a person to waste no time or movement. As well as being a creator In the Asian Hollywood scene. He was among the first Asian actors to come up in the 70’s. An influencer, by breaking boundaries with his astonishing body, and proving that anyone can do anything that they set their mind to... He quotes,” Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.” And we cannot forget, how Lee Jun-Fan left his mark on society. He inspired, he committed, and dedicated his life towards the world of martial arts and acting. His legacy will live on, for being the greatest martial artist of all-time. RIP the man, the myth, the legend...

Born on the 28th of November 1940 in San Francisco into a reasonable wealthy family, young Bruce became a child actor in Hong Kong soon returning to the US. He starred in films like, The Green Hornet, Batman and 20 other Chinese films. Sadly, this was short-lived as he was bullied, mocked, and taunted by fellow British students for his Chinese background, which man him take up what he is known for now, martial arts. While studying Kung-fu under the tutelage of master Yip Man, he created a strong passion for the art as well as dedication and commitment. Soon after, he returned to the US becoming a dance teacher, which would later pay of as he would become Hong Kong’s cha cha champion! However, this did not make him soft...

Many years later, he was known for his acting abilities in his iconic, legendary, and phenomenal Kung-fu movie. He had a body straight out of a comic book, and the martial art skills of a superhero. His movies became a hit, with his biggest one, “Enter the Dragon” grossing over 200 million USD. Although he is known for his world-renowned movies, his path to which he got there was more inspiring and extraordinary. As an underdog, he had all the odds against him. He worked day and night perfecting his technique and physique, to the point where people even questioned if he was human. As soon as he got the ball rolling, there was nothing that could stop him. His superhuman like body and skills in his movies made his scenes memorable and unbelievable. He kept doing this to the point where he motivated generations after he pasted. Including me!

Bruce paved the way for other Asians and broke the cultural barrier in the film industry. In the 1970’s the most famous actors were Michael Caine, Burt Reynolds, Al Pacino, John Travolta just to name a few. But this was also the time where Bruce Lee gained fame. As the first major Asian actor in the Hollywood scene, many looked up to him as a role-model and an Asian hero. He soon became pioneer in the Hollywood scene, by bringing ancient martial arts to his movies which separated him from his peer actors. With all that weight on his shoulders, he continued to impress critiques with his unprecedented Kung-fu abilities. However, he would never know that after his abrupt death, that he would inspire future legends due to his philosophy and craft. These people included: Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Manny Pacquaio and Kobe Bryant just to name a few. We shall remember his name for eternity as his legacy is cemented among one of the greats...
